Dr Tan Yih Kai

Wound Care Specialist
Dr Tan is a highly experienced vascular surgeon specializing in complex open and minimally invasive endovascular procedures, with over 25 years of expertise.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Queensland, Australia, and completed advanced surgical training in General and Vascular Surgery in the UK. Dr Tan is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh (FRCSEd).
Further enhancing his skills, Dr. Tan completed an additional two years of post-fellowship training in Australia, focusing extensively on open vascular procedures, including abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, bypass surgery, and carotid artery surgery.
In 2008, Dr Tan joined Changi General Hospital (CGH) as a Consultant Surgeon, serving as Director of Vascular Services from 2009 to 2015. He significantly contributed to the establishment and growth of the hospital’s vascular and endovascular services.
Dr Tan is also recognized as a leading wound specialist in Singapore. He holds a Certified Wound Specialist Physician (CWSP) certification from the American Board of Wound Management (ABWM). As the founding Chairman of CGH’s Wound Management Committee, he pioneered the annual CGH Wound Symposium from 2016 onwards. Dr Tan revolutionized wound care at CGH by introducing advanced, evidence-based wound management techniques, resulting in the establishment of the CGH Wound Healing Centre. His role as a key opinion leader includes membership on the Advisory Board for ConvaTec Group, an international leader in wound and skincare products.
Dr. Tan is active in medical research and education. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and authored book chapters. He contributed to the 2019 International Wound Hygiene Consensus document and frequently presents at workshops and conferences, educating both healthcare professionals and the public. Additionally, he served as core faculty in the SingHealth General Surgery Residency Programme and is a founding member of the Society for Vascular and Endovascular Surgeons of Singapore (SVESS).
Dr. Tan’s areas of special interest include:
- Venous diseases (varicose veins, leg ulcers, and leg swelling)
- Peripheral arterial disease (PAD)
- Aortic aneurysm
- Carotid artery disease
- Diabetic limb salvage procedures, including angioplasty and bypass surgery
- Diabetic foot complications, such as infections, chronic wounds, and gangrene
- Advanced wound care treatments
