Dr Tan Yih Kai
Senior Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon
Dr Tan is highly skilled in complex open and minimally invasive endovascular interventions, with over 25 years of experience.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Queensland, Australia. He subsequently pursued higher surgical training in General and Vascular Surgery the UK, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh (FRCSEd).
He then undertook two years of post-fellowship training in Australia to advance his skills in complex open and endovascular interventions. During this time, he gained extensive experience in open vascular procedures such as abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, bypass surgery, and carotid artery surgery.
Dr. Tan started working as Consultant Surgeon at Changi General Hospital (CGH) in 2008 and was the Director of Vascular Services at CGH between 2009 and 2015. He was instrumental in the set-up and expansion of Vascular and Endovascular Services in CGH.
Dr Tan is also a leading Wound Specialist in Singapore who has attained the Certified Wound Specialist Physician (CWSP) through the American Board of Wound Management (ABWM). He was the founding member and Chairman of Wound Management Committee in CGH which started the yearly nationwide CGH Wound Symposium since 2016. He revamped the wound care service by introducing evidence-based and state-of-the-art wound management techniques, leading to the creation of the CGH Wound Healing Centre. He was a key opinion leader in wound care and was also a member of the Advisory Board for ConvaTec Group, an international medical company specialising in wound and skin care products.
Dr Tan is also active academically. He has published in many peer-reviewed journals, including book chapters. He was also involved in writing up an International Wound Hygiene Consensus in 2019. He had given numerous presentations and chaired workshops held for both public audiences and fellow health care providers. He was a core faculty member for the SingHealth Residency Programme for General Surgery. He is also a founding member of the Society for Vascular and Endovascular Surgeons of Singapore (SVESS).
He has special interests in:
- Venous diseases (such as leg swelling, leg ulcers, and varicose veins)
- Peripheral arterial disease
- Aortic aneurysm
- Carotid artery disease
- Diabetic limb salvage (such as angioplasty and bypass surgery)
- Diabetic foot complications (such as infection, wounds, and gangrene)
- Advanced wound care
